News and Updates From The Fifth Annual New Orleans International Human Rights Film Festival

Patois: the 6th Annual New Orleans International Human Rights Film Festival   -  March 26 – April 5  2009

After Katrina, I realized I had a New Orleans connection – Hot Iron Press, whose publications were displayed at Rebus Works several years ago.  Kyle and Jenny indeed suffered massive destruction to their operation, but came back strong. We corresponded and I sent them an art care package with hand-laid paper and alternative press goodies. The year they returned to New Orleans, Cara and I participated in a bookfair exhibition (our books are at far left of picture) as described below:

Babylon Lexicon, a book arts exhibition assembled in conjunction with the New Orleans Bookfair, celebrates the work of artists who use the bound book or printed narrative as a medium of visual expression. Babylon Lexicon serves as a forum, a visual library, and a source of motivation for participating artists and visitors alike. The exhibition, the sister event to the New Orleans Bookfair, promotes the awareness of the visual arts within the literary community while displaying original modes of bookbinding.

The 7th Annual New Orleans Bookfair

The New Orleans Bookfair will take place on 500 & 600 blocks of Frenchmen Street, the thinking man’s Bourbon Street! Jazz clubs, a hookah bar, and delicious local and ethic restaurants populate this lively and vital stretch in the Faubourg Marigny, one of New Orleans’ coolest neighborhoods.
